National N Diploma: Music Composition
Upon completion of the qualification:
The Music Composition course is an occupational & vocational training programme that is structured to train Learners as an effective Music Professionals. This qualification is aimed at giving the learners technical, theoretical and practical knowledge required in the studio and the live environments.
The Design of this Studio Work qualification will enable learners to progressively obtain 3 different certificates by Completing N4, N5 and N6 in studio works either separately with breaks in between, or in one extended study period of 18months and then apply the theoretical knowledge and skills learned in the workplace for an extended period. This qualification enables the learners to be employed within the Music/Audio industry as Sound technicians, Music Producers and Studio Engineers.
Learners who successfully complete the Studio Work Training Program will be able to perform the following tasks:
- Operate fundamental MIDI Components for Sound Engineering
- Understand Music Business philosophy and the role of Manager,Business Manager, and attorney
- Understand how to create the control techniques needed for different sounds
- Understand harmony & Improvisation
- Write and score for strings and woodwinds instrument
- Mix and Master a Song or Project

The Learner will be subjected to both internal and external assessment. Internal assessments will encompass formative and Summative assignment, Tests and Examination and upon successfully completing the comprehensive external summative assessment, learners will qualify for certification. The certification will be granted by the Department of Higher Education & QCTO, affirming that the learner has attained the necessary competencies and is officially recognized as a qualified Music Composer, Music Producer or Music Director
Composer:
As a composer, you can create original music for various mediums such as films, television shows, commercials, video games, and theater productions. Your ability to evoke emotions through music is crucial in enhancing storytelling and creating immersive experiences.
Music Producer:
Dive into the process of music production, from composing and arranging to overseeing recording sessions. Collaborate with artists to bring their musical visions to life. Gain insights into music industry trends and marketing strategies.
Television and Media Composer:
Similar to film scoring, this role involves creating music for television series, documentaries, advertisements, and other media projects. Your compositions will enhance the visual content and engage audiences.
